Conneaut, OH, (July 16, 2013): The ground-pounding, alcohol-burning, fire-breathing Super Late Models will again shake the earth this coming Friday night at Raceway 7 when they make their first 2013 visit. Last Friday night the track was the best it has been this year, smooth and very fast. As the FASTRAK Late Models, E-Mods, Street Stocks, and Economods all setting track records this spring, it is expected the Super Late Model record will fall. In two appearances last summer Dave Hess Jr won the first time around while Rob Blair, tied with Dick Barton for the all-time win record, captured the victory in the second appearance. Both Barton and Blair have 36 Super Late Model feature wins at the northeast OH speed plant. Hess and Blair are both expected to be contending for the win Friday. Blair is a four-time track champion.
The regular five classes of racing will see regular racing which should be hot and heavy with season winding down and the point’s battles heating up with the hot summer days.
The Evergreen Lake Park Campground FASTRAK Late Models points chase has Chad Wright on top of the heap with three wins in 2013 and 92-point cushion over second-running Dave Airgood, with one win, that one a big one in the FASTRAK Northeast Touring event. Airgood holds a 33-point advantage over Kyle Zimmerman.
The Bonnell Collision Center E-Mods show defending champion Joel Watson leading the way in his quest for three titles in a row. Watson is a third-generation winner at Raceway 7 following the path blazed by his Grandfather, Bud, and his father, Jim. Last week’s special was Watson’s third visit to the Winner’s Circle this season and a very emotional visit, mourning the passing of his grandfather the day prior. Mike Potosky, winless this season, trails the leader by 43 markers. Withbhus second place run last week Gary Eicher is now third, 42 points from the runner-up spot.
The Western Reserve Animal Clinic Street Stocks have had slim fields but the competition has been fierce with former champion Chris Withers leading the points race by 36 markers over another former champion, Ed Bolyard. Another 79 points back is young third generation driver Darrin Hyde, rapidly improving as the season advances. Withers and Bolyard each have feature wins but Hyde has not YET made it to Victory Lane.
With points leader Russ Kaplan experiencing mechanical problems and unable to start the McDonald’s Meats Economods feature last week, the veteran Chuck Steinle Sr now leads the season-long points standing, albeit by only two points over Brian Hathaway, who now has three wins on the season. Kaplan slipped all the way back to third, thirteen points out of second.
The Specialty Products Mini Stocks ae being led by Brad Cole, a single winner thus far in 2012, by a margin of just a single point over rookie contender Dale Fraschetti, still without a feature win this season. Defending champion Bud Sergeff currently is third, 22 points behind Fraschetti.
