Santee wins first RUSH Late Model feature of year!

Eicher, Fielding, Wilson, and Lawrence each bring their 2019 win total to two!

Conneaut, OH (June 7, 2019): It was a beautiful night for racing at Raceway 7 with nearly cloudless skies and shirt-sleeves temperatures. Perfect weather for Autograph Night at the 49 year old speed plant saw 88 racers take green flags with Breyton Santee winning his first Evergreen Lake Park Campground RUSH Late Models feature of the season, former Bonnell’s Collision Center E-Mod champion Gary Eicher won his second of the season, as did Eric Wilson in the Bonnell’s Auto Sales Economods feature, Pat Fielding in the Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stocks, and Mark Lawrence in the Sunnyside Farm Transit Mini Stocks.

After the fan-favorite autograph session held on the main straight, feature racing got underway with Casey Bowers and Jesse Gould bringing the race to Mark Osburn’s green flag. Bowers led from the start with fourth starting Mike Potosky coming to second at the end of lap one ahead of Gould, Dan McDonald, and Gary Eicher. The first caution came at two laps when Josh McDonald spun in turn three. As the race resumed Eicher came to third at three laps while Bowers was stretching his lead until lap six, when he spun in turn one, handing the lead off to Potosky. Mike Kinney charged to second on the restart and defending champion Troy Johnson got to the top five. Eicher was up to second from his sixth spot on the grid at the lap seven yellow for Tim Rockwell, spun in turn two. Under the caution Potosky drifted to a halt and needed pushed pitside, ending a great run. Kinney, Eicher, Dan McDonald,Johnson, and Dan Davies brought the field back to green. At halfway Davies had displaced Johnson for fourth. Dan McDonald’s night ended early at lap twelve when he pulled to the infield. At this point debris in turn four slowed the race. Johnson looped his mount in turns one and two when the race restarted. From the back of the pack Bowers had worked his way back up to sixth! With fourteen complete Brandon Grossman spun in turn four with Tim Rockwell, Bowers, and Bill Taylor getting involved. All three were done for the night with Taylor needing towed from the scene. At the checkers it was Eicher, Kinney, Davies, Percy McDonald, and Charlie Steinle Jr.

Breyton Santee led the Evergreen Lake Park Campground RUSH Late Models from the pole with third-starting Chad Sines coming to second over Joe Long, Darrell Bossard, and Kyle Zimmerman. Lap four saw spin out action on both ends of the track as Zach Downes went around in turn four while Bob Diver and Khole Wanzer were in the spin cycle in turn one. On the restart it was a three wide dash on the back straight for second but Joe Howell spun in turn two to slow the race under yellow. At five laps Dennis Dellinger and Brandon Porter got together, eventually involving Diver and John Stockdale. The race ran green from there on with Dave Airgood coming into the top five at the halfway point. Santee went on to the win, his first of the season with Sines second, Zimmerman, a former champion and the May 24th winner, third, Bossard, the defending champion, fourth, and Dave Airgood fifth.

Jessica Harvey and and Mark Lawrence brought the Sunnyside Farm Transit Mini Stocks to green with Lawrence grabbing the immediate lead. A lap two restart after an incident in turn two with former champion Joe Campbell and Zoey Gill spun in two showed Lawrence leading over defending champion Dillon Speer, Jim Haefke, Scott Gill, and Chris Horton. On lap three Lawrence and Speer were side by side at the line but Speer went high in turn two, allowing Lawrence to get away. Lawrence enjoyed a big lead at lap seven through eleven when fire erupted under Scott Gill’s car, stopping the race under the red flag. At the end of the one lap dash to the checkers it was Lawrence getting his second win of the season over Speer, Haefke, Horton, and Zack Eller.

Eric Reinwald and Eric Wilson were at the front of the lineup for the Bonnell’s Auto Sales Economod feature with Wilson leading from green but Gary Murphy came to a halt in turn two, negating the start. On the restart Mitch Wright and Billy Cunningham spun on the front stretch before getting to the green. Wilson got the lead from Reinwald on the back chute after restarting to lead lap one over Reinwald, Mitchell Lam, Mark Titus, and Jeremy Double. Lam was second after two laps with Double up to third and Dustin Demattia coming into the top five. Last week’s winner, Nate Young, spun in turns one and two at five complete. Double got to second at six laps with Demattia up to fourth. Kyle Miller displaced Demattia for fourth at lap seven. Double began challenging Wilson for the lead at the halfway point when Cunningham spun in turn four. With six laps left five cars piled up in turn one, Derek Connors, Mark Titus, Pat Drennan, Will Pinckney, and Casey Harmon. Dan McEwen got into the wall on the restart. Three attempts to get lap ten in the books ended in cautions with more cautions at eleven, and twelve. At the finish it was Wilson for his second win of the season over Double, Demattia, Matt Alexander, and last week’s winner, Nate Young.

The final event of the night was for the Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stocks with Joe Stajnragh and Pat Fielding bringing the race to green. Fielding slid wide in turn two with Jamie Duncan and Bill Watson both getting by to run up front at the end of one lap. Stajnragh was fourth at the end of one with Jesse Brock fifth. Watson then slowed and headed to the pit. At three complete Duncan’s car erupted in smoke and he drove to the infield. Fielding was the leader at four laps then Stajnragh slid to a halt in turn two. At halfway the leaders were Fielding, Josh Seippel, David Baker, Brock, and Tony Spaghetti. Brock’s race ended on the front straight at lap eleven when he spun out of contention. The final caution of the night fell at twelve laps complete when Tom Teed spun in turn four. At the finish it was Fielding, Seippel, Baker, Spaghetti, and Darr Diegelman.
