Bobby Whitling wins Penn Ohio event at Raceway 7!

Mitchell Wright gets first ever win, Eicher, Airgood, and Downes get second of year.

Conneaut, OH (July 14, 2017): Forty Two Penn Ohio Pro Stocks signed into the pit area for their $1,000 to win. The American flag flew at half-mast in honor of Robert “Bob” Rohrer, owner of Eriez Speedway. Bob lost his battle with cancer on July 2. At the end of the night it was Bobby Whitling standing in Victory Lane, the winner of the Penn Ohio Pro Stock feature for the Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stocks. Mitchell Wright prevailed over the 25 Bonnell Auto Sales Economods for his first-ever feature win, Gary Eicher got his first win of the season in the Bonnell Collision Service E-Mods, Dave Airgood captured his second Evergreen Lake Park Campground CARS Crate Late Model feature win of the season, and Zach Downes went to the Winner’s Circle for the second time this season.

Dave Airgood grabbed the immediate lead from the pole position in the Evergreen Lake Park Campground CARS Crate Late Models feature with third starting Dennis Lunger coming to second. Chad Wright replaced Lunger in the runner-up spot at the end of three. On lap six Jeff Walters spun in turn four, slowing the race under yellow and erasing Airgood’s four car-length lead. On green Dylan Goodman, Alex Anderson, Jeff Walters, and Brandon Porter piled up in turn one. The next green saw Airgood again lead with Wright again second, Zimmerman and Lunger side by side for third. Zimmerman had the spot by nine complete. At halfway Wright had reeled in the leader with Alan Dellinger by Lunger for fourth. With five to go Jeff Walters and William Pinckney spun right in front of the leaders in turn one. Airgood, Wright, and Zimmerman all took evasive action and were able to avoid contact. After green Airgood continued to lead, going on to his second win of the season over Wright, Zimmerman, Dellinger, and Lunger.

Ashley Rogers and Mitch Wright brought the twenty five Economods to green with Wright launching out to the immediate lead. Brandon Blackshear was second at two laps. Matt Alexander, Buzz Seitz, and Gary Robinson all got together in turn one on lap three, bringing yellow over the field. Wayne Daniels looped his mount in turn one on lap five for caution three. At five compete the order was Wright, Geoff Conn, Jim Haefke, points leader Blackshear, and Bob Vogt. At seven laps Gary Robinson spun in turn four. Yellow flew yet again when Buzz Seitz spun in turn one on the restart. Wright again sped out to a three length lead at five to go over Conn when the yellow again flew, again for Seitz, spun this time in turn four, his third caution, sending him pitside. Just as green flew Robinson again spun, this time at the end of the back straight. Frankenberry got by Blackshear on the first lap of green but Jason Brightman spun at the end of the lap in turn four. Wright went on to his first-ever win over Conn, Haefke, Frankenberry, and Blackshear.

The featured event of the evening was the 20-lap Penn Ohio Pro Stock event with Bobby Whitling and Jamie Duncan on the front row. Tim Deutsch spun in turn one at the green putting the field under immediate caution for a complete restart. Whitling and Duncan again brought the field to green with yellow again flying, this time for Rod Laskey and Chris McGuire, spun in turn three. The third time was successful with Whitling leading the field at the first completed lap. When lap two was complete Rusty Martz was second, dropping Duncan to third. Don McGuire and Rob Shook were the next caution at lap three. Whitling opened an eight car-length lead by lap five over Martz, Duncan, Rusty Moore, and Russ Byler. Don McGuire spun into the outside wall at the end of the back straight at seven complete. Joe Stajnrajh came to a halt in turn four after another lap of green. Duncan was back to second at nine complete. At halfway it was Whitling, Duncan, Martz, Moore, and Randy Wyant. Wyant came to fourth at sixteen while Whitling was pulling away at the front to a half straight lead with two to go. At the white flag Whitling had caught the rear of the field but easily held on to win with a scramble coming out of turn four for the run to the checkers for second with Rusty Moore getting the spot at the line over Duncan. Randy Wyant was fourth with Rusty Martz fifth.

The Sunnyside Farm Transit Inc Mini Stocks began with Bill Fuchs and defending class champion Jason Easler on the front row with Easler leading until red was on the speedway when Jessica Harvey rolled in turn two as five cars, including Corey Wick, Zoey Gill, Mike Barr, and Shawn McBride piled up. She had rolled less than a week ago at Eriez Speedway. Jessica was unhurt but done for the night. Only 13 of the 20 signed in were able to continue with no laps complete. Zach Downes came to second at two laps and challenged for the lead side by side at the end of four, taking the lead at five laps into the race. At halfway it was Downes, Easler, Fuchs, Logan Keney, and Joe Campbell. Easler slowed, pulling to the infield, on lap eight, bringing Brian McGarvie to fifth. The finish was Downes, Fuchs, Keney, Campbell, and McGarvie for the top five.

The final feature of the night was the Bonnell Collision Center E-Mods with Gary Eicher and Bud Watson on the front row. Eicher was the leader from the drop of the green with Josh McDonald third. At three laps Mike Potosky took over third with Joel Watson fourth at four laps. Chris Rudolph spun in turn one with eight complete for the first caution of the race. Eicher, Potosky, Bud Watson, Joel Watson, and Josh McDonald brought the field back to green with Eicher again opening the lead. Joel Watson and Mike Potosky fought over second with Potosky having the spot with fourteen compete. Alan Atkinson and Amanda Stiffler spun in turn one at fifteen laps, again slowing the event. For the single file restart Potosky and Joel Watson were right on Eicher’s rear bumper with Watson again challenging for second as Eicher opened his lead. Watson was second at sixteen complete. With two to go Eicher had a near half straight lead but his lead disappeared as caution for a spin by Jeremy Double again slowed his march to the win. Eicher went on to his first Raceway 7 win of the year over Joel Watson, Potosky, Bud Watson, and Scott Stiffler.
